Each year the Department of Psychology holds an essay competition for Sixth Form students. This year over 100 essays were received from schools across the country, answering one of two questions: “Is reason the master of emotions, or are emotions the master of reason?” or.

The Philippa Fawcett Mathematics Essay Prize. Philippa Fawcett Mathematics Information And Questions 2020. The Philippa Fawcett Mathematics Essay Prize is a new addition to our annual essay prizes. It is named after the former Newnham student who in 1890 was the first woman to obtain the highest mark of all candidates for the Cambridge.
The Philosophy Essay Prize is open to Year 12 or Lower 6th students. The aim of the Prize is to encourage able sixth formers to pursue their interest in Philosophy, with the hope that they will be encouraged to read this or related subjects at University. Our Essay Prize portal has two sides - an entrant side for submission and a teachers' side for approval. The system can be used by teachers to run internal competitions within the school - entrants upload their essays as normal and the teacher selects the two best essays for each prize to approve and put forward for consideration by the competition markers.
